What is Botox?
Botox is an FDA-approved injection that prevents and smooths aging lines by disabling muscle movement in the areas being treated. It is an extremely effective, safe, and popular way to diminish wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet from the face for a more youthful appearance. It’s also approved for use in treating excessive sweating, known as hyperhidrosis, and for TMJ/clenching in the jaw’s masseter muscles.

How Does Botox Work?
Derived from a naturally occurring toxin called Clostridium botulinum, Botox is injected by trained providers into targeted areas of the skin. It blocks nerve signals to the muscles in these areas, preventing movement and fatigue. By allowing the muscles to rest (rather than contract), Botox smoothens the wrinkles and fine lines that occur naturally with age and repeated facial expressions. The result is natural-looking, softened skin, free of wrinkles, frown lines, laugh lines, and crow’s feet.

Botox Benefits
While Botox is widely known for its cosmetic applications, it also provides remarkable treatment solutions for various medical conditions.
Botox for Sweating
Many clients opt for Botox to manage hyperhidrosis, a condition causing excessive sweating. Sweating naturally regulates body temperature, but those with hyperhidrosis experience uncontrollable perspiration. Botox effectively targets areas like the underarms and palms by blocking nerve signals to sweat glands, which helps reduce sweat stains and body odor, improving overall comfort and confidence.
Botox for Migraines
Botox is an FDA-approved treatment for chronic migraines. It blocks pain-related neurotransmitters when injected into facial, head, and neck muscles, reducing the frequency and severity of migraines.
Botox for TMJ
Many people experience jaw pain, facial pain, and chronic headaches due to Bruxism (teeth grinding or clenching) and TMJ syndrome, which affects the joint connecting the jawbone to the skull. This pain can impact daily activities like chewing and speaking. Botox can relax overactive jaw muscles, providing pain relief and restoring comfort.
Botox for Gummy Smile
A gummy smile, which typically reveals three millimeters or more of gum tissue, can affect self-esteem. Factors like hyperactive lip muscles or enlarged gum tissue contribute to this appearance. Botox is a simple, effective treatment that relaxes the upper lip muscles, reducing how high the lip lifts when smiling and keeping the gums covered.
Botox for Neck
While many anti-aging treatments focus on the face, the neck often shows signs of aging first. Common issues include horizontal lines, turkey neck, jowls, and a less-defined jawline. Botox for the neck targets this area, smoothing platysmal bands, reducing wrinkles, and enhancing profile definition.
Botox for Fine Lines and Wrinkles
As we age, we lose collagen and skin elasticity, leading to fine lines and wrinkles on the face. Botox injections effectively target problem areas by blocking nerve signals, allowing muscles to relax and making the skin appear smoother. It’s an ideal solution for those looking to refresh their appearance and soften expression lines.
Botox Areas
In the hands of BodyLase’s experienced injectors, Botox can smooth fine lines and wrinkles that appear from repeated expressions like smiling, aging, sun damage, and more. Some of the Botox areas that are particularly prone to visible lines — and therefore treatable with Botox injections — include:
Frown Lines
Glabella lines, or frown lines, appear between your eyebrows and can visually cue others that you’re angry or tired. These are often known as the “11s” because the lines form the number 11.
Crow’s Feet
Crow’s feet are the wrinkles that appear at the corner of your eyes when you smile. Over time, these fine lines will remain pronounced — even when we’re not smiling.
Forehead
Surprise lines, or forehead wrinkles, become more pronounced as we get older. Because the forehead is highly visible on our face, these types of wrinkles can be a particularly noticeable sign of aging.
Lipstick Lines
The fine lines around your mouth, or lipstick lines, become more pronounced as you get older, often resulting in the appearance of a downturned mouth. They used to be called smoker’s lines or — now with the popularity of water bottles with straws —they can be called straw lines!
Marionette Lines
Marionette lines are those that extend from the corner of the mouth down to the jawline. They can give your mouth the unwanted appearance that it’s being “pulled down.”
Chin
The muscles in your chin become more active as you age, creating an undesirable, puckered impression. Botox injections can relax these muscles and reduce their dimpling effects.
Jawline and Neck
Whether due to genetics, age, or fatigued facial muscles, prominent wrinkles can form around your jawline and neck. Depending on age and lifestyle, these lines can develop vertically or horizontally.
Bunny Lines (Top of the Nose)
Nose wrinkles, or bunny lines, are the creases that appear near the top of your nose when you sniff something.
Eyebrow
Your eyebrows naturally lower as you age, resulting in hooded folds in the skin around your eyes. Chemical brow lifts, or Botox facelifts, can reverse this process by sculpting and lifting your eyebrows for a more youthful appearance.
Under-Eyes
The skin between your lower eyelid and upper cheek can develop ‘under-eye bags’ as you get older. Since your eyes communicate non-verbally, they need to convey engagement instead of exhaustion.
Botox Results
How long does Botox take to work?
Many clients begin to notice gradual improvements in as little as three days, though optimal results are typically seen after two weeks.
How long does Botox last?
Results from Botox typically last about three to four months. That’s why most clients schedule follow-up appointments every three months, helping to maintain smooth, consistent results. Between appointments, we recommend avoiding excessive sun exposure and using medical-grade skincare products to maximize results.
Botox Before and After
Botox Aftercare
After receiving your Botox injection, your BodyLase provider will provide you with specific post-care instructions; however, we generally recommend following these guidelines:
- Avoid vigorous exercise until the day following your treatment
- Avoid sweating for 24 hours
- Do not lie down; keep your head elevated for at least four hours after treatment
- Do not touch or massage the injected area
Botox and Other Brands
At BodyLase, we offer Botox and Daxxify – two of the most advanced and clinically proven neurotoxins on the market. While other options like Xeomin, Dysport, and Jeuveau are also FDA-approved and effective, we have chosen to specialize in the best-in-class neurotoxins for results, longevity, and client satisfaction.
Botox
Botox is an FDA-approved injection and has the longest safety track record across neurotoxins, with more than 20 years. Botox delivers consistent, predictable results and is ideal for treating dynamic wrinkles. Botox results typically last three to four months. We recommend Botox for clients seeking predictable results with a proven safety record.
Daxxify
Daxxify is an FDA-approved injection that produces the longest-lasting results among any neurotoxin, with clients enjoying results for six months or longer. The primary difference between Botox and Daxxify is that Daxxify is peptide-powered and does not use any human or animal byproducts. We recommend Daxxify for clients who want fewer appointments without compromising results.
Xeomin
Xeomin is sometimes called the “naked” neurotoxin because it contains only pure botulinum toxin type A and does not have any accessory proteins. While it produces results similar to other neurotoxins, Xeomin lacks stabilizing proteins, which may cause results to take longer to appear or wear off sooner for some clients.
Dysport
Dysport is another botulinum toxin injection that works similarly to Botox and Daxxify, but with a lighter formulation that allows it to spread more easily once injected. This means that it can effectively treat larger areas, but on the other hand, it may not be as precise or ideal for treating smaller, more delicate areas.
Jeuveau
Jeuveau is a relatively new neurotoxin, marketed primarily for cosmetic use rather than medical conditions like migraines or hyperhidrosis. Because it is relatively new, long-term data is limited, and results can vary slightly from other injectables.
Filler vs. Botox
While both are harnessed to reverse aging skin, dermal fillers and Botox are fundamentally different in their approaches. Unlike Botox, fillers don’t immobilize your muscles. Instead, they utilize the gelling properties of ingredients like calcium hydroxylapatite, polylactic acid, and hyaluronic acid to add volume to treated areas.
Rather than minimize unwanted muscle movement like the Botox approach, dermal fillers are meant to enhance lost facial volume or balance facial features. As the name suggests, fillers can be used to plump or reshape lips, correct asymmetry in certain parts of the face, or enhance sunken areas of skin for a younger, more symmetrical appearance.
How Much Does Botox Cost?
