How Does IPL Photofacial Work?

IPL  technology works by delivering high-intensity light pulses deep into the skin. These pulses target unwanted pigmentation and vascular irregularities, gently heating the skin to stimulate natural collagen production and encourage natural cellular renewal.

During your treatment:

  • Light energy penetrates below the skin’s surface
  • Pigmented cells or broken vessels absorb the energy
  • The body naturally eliminates these imperfections over time

IPL harnesses a broad-spectrum pulse, allowing it to treat multiple skin concerns in a single session. While most clients notice visible improvement after one treatment, optimal results usually require a series of 3-5 sessions scheduled 4 weeks apart.

IPL Photofacials Offer Solutions for Common Problems

While Botox is widely known for its cosmetic applications, it also provides remarkable treatment solutions for various medical conditions.

IPL Photofacials Stimulate Collagen

The heat energy from IPL prompts your body to produce more collagen, the building block of healthy, firm, youthful skin. Over time, this results in improved elasticity, a smoother texture, and a brighter overall tone.

IPL Photofacials Reduce Sun Damage

UV damage accumulates over time, often leaving dark patches or brown spots. IPL breaks up these pigmented areas, allowing your body to flush them away naturally. The result? Skin looks more even, clear, and refreshed.

IPL Photofacials Fix Uneven Tone

Whether it’s melasma, freckling, or blotchy skin, an IPL Photofacial can target unwanted pigment to restore uniformity to your complexion.

IPL Photofacials Reduce Redness

From broken capillaries to rosacea, IPL reduces redness by targeting the underlying blood vessels that cause discoloration. It’s an excellent solution for flushed or ruddy skin.

IPL Photofacials Reduce Fine Links and Wrinkles

With each treatment, IPL’s collagen-stimulating effects help reduce the appearance of fine lines and improve skin density over time.

IPL Photofacials Close Larger Pores

By tightening the skin and promoting healthy cell turnover, IPL helps shrink the appearance of enlarged pores for a smoother, more refined look.

Who Is a Candidate for IPL?

IPL Photofacials work best for individuals with:

  • Fair to medium skin tones
  • Sun-damaged skin, brown spots, or redness
  • Good overall skin health

Note: Clients with deeper skin tones may not be ideal candidates, as IPL light may not differentiate between pigment and surrounding skin. Schedule a consultation to assess your suitability. Our highly trained staff will guide you towards the best laser collagen therapy treatment based on your skin type and wellness goals.

IPL Aftercare

Proper IPL aftercare is key to maximizing your results and preventing unnecessary irritation after treatment. Here’s what to expect — and what to avoid — following your IPL Photofacial session.

What to Expect Post-Treatment

These are all normal signs that the IPL treatment is working beneath the surface. Here’s what you should do to get and expect in the first 72 hours after treatment

Directly After Appointment

  • Mild redness and warmth, similar to a light sunburn, may occur for a few hours.
  • You may feel a slight tightening of the skin as collagen begins to rebuild.

First 24 Hours

  • Do not wear makeup
  • No intense workouts or sweating
  • No hot showers, saunas, or facial treatments
  • Do not pick or peel flaking skin or dark spots — this can lead to scarring or pigmentation issues. Allow your skin to shed naturally for optimal results.

48-72 Hours Later

  • Use only gentle cleansers and moisturizers
  • Apply a mineral-based SPF 30+ daily (even indoors)
  • Avoid harsh exfoliants or active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, or retinol
  • Dark spots may darken temporarily and then flake off within 7–10 days.

IPL Photofacial FAQS

IPL targets pigmentation, sunspots, redness, rosacea, broken capillaries, and improves overall skin tone.

IPL is generally safest for lighter skin types; darker skin requires customized settings to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.

Typically, 3–6 sessions spaced 3–4 weeks apart for optimal results.

Some redness and slight swelling may occur, usually resolving within a day or two.

IPL may reduce inflammation and redness associated with acne, but it is not a primary acne treatment.
