What Is Upneeq?

A non-surgical alternative to blepharoplasty, Upneeq is an FDA-approved prescription eye drop treatment that temporarily lifts droopy eyelids, also known as blepharoptosis, or ptosis for short. Upneeq uses an active ingredient of .01% oxymetazoline hydrochloride ophthalmic solution.

Sometimes referred to as the “drop and lift” medication, Upneeq activates the Müller’s muscle, causing the eyelid to open 1-2 millimeters (mm). While this change may not seem like much, the lift caused by Müller’s muscle provides a noticeable difference to your facial appearance, and all it takes is just one drop a day in each eye. Results are generally seen within fifteen minutes and last approximately six to eight hours.

Benefits of Upneeq

If you have sagging eyelids and are considering Upneeq as a non-surgical treatment option, here are some potential benefits:

  • Tighter, lifted eyelids
  • Better field of vision
  • Immediate results
  • Non-surgical
  • Completely painless
  • More energized and “awake” appearance

Ideal Candidates for Upneeq

While droopy eyelids are a common concern for many individuals, Upneeq is not an ideal eyelid treatment for everyone. Our providers generally recommend Upneeq to individuals who:

  • Have droopy eyelids caused by mild, moderate, or severe ptosis that impacts their visibility or appearance.
  • Have age-related ptosis, rather than congenital ptosis, in which their eyelid muscles slowly weaken over time.
  • Have ptosis due to BOTOX® that has migrated to the eyelid area.
  • Are not on any medications that Upneeq may interfere with, such as beta-blockers, blood pressure medication, anti-hypertensive medications, or cardiac glycosides.

To find out if you are an ideal candidate for Upneeq, schedule a consultation with one of our experienced providers. After examining your eyelids and reviewing your medical history, we can then determine if this eyelid treatment is right for you.

Nu-Cil vs Latisse

Created by Allergan, Latisse is an FDA-approved prescription eyelash serum that has been clinically proven to treat hypotrichosis and help clients grow longer, fuller natural lashes. Hypotrichosis is a common condition characterized by inadequate or little to no eyelashes, which may be caused by factors such as a skin condition, drug side effects, a metabolic abnormality, and genetics.

Latisse’s active ingredient, bimatoprost, is a prostaglandin analog, which affects the growth cycle of your eyelashes. Prostaglandins are commonly found in lash serum solutions, as they work in three ways to provide stunning results:

  1. Extending the growth phase for longer eyelashes
  2. Increasing the number of hairs for more volume
  3. Improving pigmentation for darker, more visible lashes

While Latisse’s results are gradual, noticeable changes are often seen within four weeks. How long you use Latisse to grow your lashes will depend on your personalized treatment plan.

Similarly, Nu-Cil features two eye-lashes and eye-brow serums. Its powerful Obagi’s NouriPlex™ Technology, is a clinically-proven blend of ingredients shown to accentuate the healthy look of eyebrows to be fuller, denser, and darker in as little as 8 weeks. The Nu-Cil serums do not require a prescription.

Benefits of Latisse and Nu-Cil

Due to their effectiveness, Latisse for eyebrows and Nu-Cil are one of the most popular eyelash treatments available. Here are some benefits you may experience when using Latisse and Nu-Cil to grow your eyelashes or eyebrows:

  • Safely treats hypotrichosis
  • Longer, thicker, and darker lashes
  • Can be used with contact lenses
  • Fast results
  • Easy to use—simply brush the solution on your upper lash line
  • Can replace the need for false eyelashes and extensions
  • Increase your confidence and self-esteem

Ideal Candidates for Latisse and Nu-Cil

Latisse and Nu-Cil offer an alternative way to grow healthier, more beautiful lashes and eyebrows, foregoing the need for excessive amounts of mascara, false eyelashes, lash extensions, lash tints or the equivalents for brows. If you are considering this eyelash or eyebrow treatment, Latisse or Nu-Cil may be right for you if you:

  • Have inadequate or little to no eyelashes or eyebrows
  • Can dedicate a few minutes a day to applying the Latisse or Nu-Cil solution
  • Do not have any eye problems, such as conjunctivitis, glaucoma, or inflammation
  • Do not have any severe eye allergies
  • Are not pregnant or breastfeeding

Contact BodyLase and schedule a consultation to learn more about getting Nu-Cil or Latisse for eyebrows. One of our experienced providers in Raleigh or Cary, NC will examine your medical history to determine if this eyelash and eyebrow growth treatment is right for you.

Can You Have Both Upneeq and Latisse/Nu-Cil?

Combining Latisse/Nu-Cil and Upneeq can result in lifted, more defined eyes and brows that transform your appearance. While it is common to use these two products alongside one another, it may be inadvisable to do so based on your individual needs and medical history. Visit a dependable provider who can inform you of the best way to safely achieve longer, healthier, fuller lashes and eyebrows and lifted eyelids.

If you receive a treatment plan that has both Upneeq and Latisse/Nu-Cil, we recommend spacing out their application, as using them at the same time may increase your risk of complications. Generally, our med spa providers recommend you wait at least 15 minutes between using Upneeq and Latisse/Nu-Cil. This also applies to the use of other prescriptions near the eyes.
