Reflections on Being Voted Raleigh’s Best Med Spa for the Third Year in a Row
When I founded BodyLase back in 2002, I was driven by a vision to bring laser hair removal technology to Raleigh. Fast forward over 20 years, and BodyLase has just been voted “Raleigh’s Best Med Spa” for the third consecutive year by the News & Observer. I am filled with so much pride and gratitude, and it feels like the perfect moment to reflect on the growth of BodyLase and the incredible team and clients who make this award possible.
The Early Days: An Idea Brought to Life
In the early 2000s, the med spa industry looked very different. It was still finding its footing, and there were few places dedicated solely to aesthetics and skincare. I dreamed of a woman-owned and operated space where people felt comfortable, seen, and empowered. In 2002, I decided to turn this dream into reality and opened BodyLase, Raleigh’s first standalone med spa, where our only service was laser hair removal.
Those early days were both exciting and challenging. As anyone who has started a business knows, there were countless late nights, cash flow concerns, marketing challenges, and lots of self-doubt. It was a time filled with learning, growth, and an overarching focus on excellence. Over time, our reputation grew as a place where people could trust they would receive expert care in a welcoming, non-judgmental environment. As word spread, we continued to add aesthetic services to our menu and BodyLase evolved into a full-service medical spa with thousands of clients across the Triangle.
