Laser Vein Treatment: How Do You Treat Broken Capillaries On The Face?

Have you noticed red blotches on your face? Are there clusters of red streaks? This redness may be caused by broken capillaries beneath the skin. Many women try to cover up these with make-up, but now there is a more permanent solution – laser vein treatment.

What are Broken Capillaries?

Enlarged or dilated blood vessels are what we call broken capillaries. These are usually just beneath the surface of the skin, which makes them visible. Broken capillaries are typically displayed in the form of red splotches to a naked eye, and they usually show up around one’s cheeks, chin and nose. If you look closely at those red splotches, they look like a net of tiny, red or purple lines.

These veins are not a problem reserved for a special kind of person. Everyone and anyone can suffer from this problem. That being said, broken capillaries most commonly appear with certain other skin conditions:

  • Rosacea
  • Sensitive skin
  • Acne

What Causes Broken Capillaries?

Some people simply have genetic predispositions to having broken capillaries. Skin that is sensitive, fair, or susceptible to rosacea is more vulnerable to broken blood vessels. On top of that, there is one more prevalent cause of broken capillaries – an external disturbance in one’s skin. This disturbance can be caused by:

  • Windburn
  • Extreme temperature changes
  • Excessive drinking or smoking
  • Sneezing just a little bit too hard

Treating Broken Capillaries

Broken capillaries are not dangerous or harmful, but you may find them cosmetically unpleasing. The treatment for broken capillaries on the face is laser. For widespread redness and rosacea, an IPL photofacial can also be an effective option.

How Simple Laser Treatment Works

A laser is used to damage a vein by applying heat to it. Scar tissue is formed closing the vein. Once the vein closes, it loses its source of blood and slowly disappears.

This procedure is performed directly on the surface of the skin at a provider’s office. The laser is directed at the broken capillaries, and the laser light passes through the skin to treat them. A session of this procedure takes about 15 to 20 minutes. For veins to completely disappear, it may take more than one laser session. Many people might have another session in 6 to 12 weeks to achieve the desired result.

This treatment is so simple, and it will not affect your daily routine. You will be able to go back to your planned daily activities immediately. The side effects may include some redness or swelling, and you may decide to put a bandage on the area.
