Fraxel is a powerhouse treatment that addresses multiple signs of aging. It’s a favorite with BodyLase clients and our team because of the amazing results it can deliver–from fresher, younger-looking skin and improved tone/texture to reducing brown spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and improving the appearance of scars. We often get asked, “How does Fraxel work?” so let’s talk more about this multifaceted laser technology. Of course, the best way to learn more and to find out if Fraxel is right for you is to schedule a personalized consultation.

How Does Fraxel Work?

Fraxel is a skin resurfacing treatment for people who want to look younger without dramatic changes, like surgery. In technical terms, it’s the first non-ablative fractional skin resurfacing treatment. What that means is a non-invasive treatment that delivers outstanding results without extended downtime.

The Fraxel laser uses one or two laser wavelengths to penetrate deep into the skin, stimulating the body to produce collagen naturally. Because the laser works on a microscopic level, surrounding tissues are left intact–promoting rapid healing. Think of it as driving the growth of brand-new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.

What Does Fraxel Treat?

Because Fraxel stimulates collagen production, it’s effective on:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles – including crow’s feet and brow lines
  • Surface scarring – acne scars and surgical scars
  • Pigmentation – reducing the appearance of age and sun spots
  • Sun damage – improving the look and feel of skin
  • Actinic Keratosis (AK) and Melasma- common skin conditions

Where Can You Use Fraxel?

Fraxel can effectively treat the face, neck, chest, hands, and arms.

“Fraxel is one of my favorite treatments to perform,” said Kelly Smith, an aesthetician at BodyLase Med Spa in Raleigh. “It delivers such amazing results–it’s like erasing years of sun damage, fine lines, wrinkles, and even scarring. My biggest advice? Don’t skip your neck and chest! The collagen boost will make you feel like a million bucks!”

What Can I Expect After Fraxel Treatment?

For 3-5 days, your skin will be red and begin to peel and look scaly. Your body is producing new skin cells and amping up collagen production!  It’s important to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen (not just after Fraxel, but every day) with an SPF 30 or higher. You should also avoid direct sun exposure by wearing a hat. Additionally, turn to medical-grade skincare like a gentle cleanser and moisturizer twice a day. Don’t pick at your skin; you’ll extend the healing time and avoid exfoliants and prescription acne products for a week.

How Many Fraxel Treatments Do I Need?

While you’ll start to see results after your first treatment, an effective BodyLase treatment regimen includes 4 treatments, spaced approximately 4 weeks apart. By spacing out a series of four treatments, it allows the body to heal and boost collagen production–so that each treatment builds on the success of the prior ones.

You don’t have to take our word on the power of Fraxel. Hear what BodyLase client Melissa has to say, “BodyLase has such a great menu of facial treatments. My favorite is IPL, but over the past year, I’ve been completing a series of Fraxel Dual treatments under the care of Rita. Rita has made this experience so rewarding. As someone who has battled acne scarring, redness, skin texture issues, and now aging, I am seeing some fantastic results! And Rita is right there to educate and celebrate my skin’s transformation. Skin is so personal, and I am grateful for the specialized care I have received at BodyLase.”
