The warm summer sun can feel great, but it can also wreak havoc on your skin without adequate protection. The sun’s rays, chlorine from the pool, and even sweat can leave your skin feeling less than its best. BodyLase® med spa shares tips to help you rejuvenate your skin this summer and maintain a more youthful glow.

1. Hydrate

Since approximately 50% or more of your body consists of water, hydration is essential for soft, healthy skin. Aim to drink at least 64 ounces of water daily to replenish what your body naturally loses and help regulate your body temperature, especially when it is hot.

2. Moisturize

It is tempting to skip your daily moisturizer when you are already feeling sweaty, and your face is oilier, but stick to your routine. Choose a lightweight moisturizer that glides on easily and does not make your skin feel weighed down. This will help lock in moisture and protect your skin from irritants and pollutants in the environment.

Products containing hyaluronic acid are especially beneficial as they support your cells in naturally retaining water to keep your skin supple and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. They can also keep your skin from becoming dry, itchy, and stressed from the summer sun.

3. Wear SPF

Protect your skin from damaging UV rays by wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen—aim for an SPF of at least 30, but ideally an SPF of 40 or 50. Reapply every two hours for continuous protection against sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, and premature signs of aging. Sunscreen also helps reduce your risk of skin cancer.

4. Try Dermaplaning

Regular exfoliation removes the buildup of dead skin cells, environmental pollutants, makeup, bacteria, and other debris that clogs pores and leaves your skin looking lackluster. Dermaplaning is a safe, non-invasive way of exfoliating your skin using a medical-grade blade

A trained provider carefully glides the blade at an angle across your skin to remove debris, dead cells, and vellus hairs without otherwise damaging your skin. Dermaplaning leaves your skin feeling smoother and opens your pores to absorb hydrating serums and moisturizers more effectively.

5. Get a HydraFacial

A HydraFacial is another way to exfoliate and moisturize your skin. The HydraFacial device, with the help of several different tips used within the handpiece, cleanses your skin, and extracts impurities and dead skin cells while simultaneously hydrating your skin with healthy serums and nutrients.

6. Maintain a Healthy Skincare Routine

Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face after excessive sweating. Avoid over-washing your face, as that strips away the natural oils that protect your skin. Go light on makeup so your skin can breathe, and use non-comedogenic products that will not clog your pores. Try to use SPF protection when possible, and do not forget to protect your lips as well.
