Target Sun Damage and Redness with IPL Photofacial

Sun spots, uneven pigmentation, broken capillaries, and persistent redness are among the most common concerns we hear at BodyLase—and IPL photofacial is one of the most effective ways to address them. IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light therapy, works by delivering high-intensity light pulses into the skin that target unwanted pigmentation and red tones. These pulses gently heat the treated areas, stimulating natural collagen production and encouraging cellular renewal. Our highly trained providers customize every treatment to your skin concerns and goals.

What Does an IPL Photofacial Treat?

Sun Spots

Age spots, brown spots, and freckles from UV exposure.

Rosacea

Facial redness, flushing, and diffuse ruddiness.

Broken Capillaries

Visible veins & discoloration.

Uneven Skin Tone

Blotchy complexion & unwanted pigmentation.

Photoaging

Cumulative UV damage & premature aging signs.

Is an IPL Photofacial Right for You?

IPL is best suited for individuals with lighter to medium skin tones who want to address sun damage, rosacea, or pigmentation concerns. Clients with deeper skin tones or a recent tan may not be ideal candidates. During your consultation, our experts will assess your skin to determine whether IPL is right for you or if other treatments, like Fraxel or chemical peels may better address your needs.

IPL Photofacial Treats More Than Just Sun Spots

Sun damage brings most clients in—but IPL rarely stops there.

Rosacea Management
IPL is one of the most clinically supported treatments for reducing rosacea-related redness and visible vessels. A series of sessions can dramatically reduce flushing and persistent ruddiness, giving clients relief from a condition that's otherwise difficult to manage.
Collagen Support
Beyond pigment and vessels, the heat generated by IPL stimulates collagen-producing fibroblast activity. Over time, clients notice improvements in skin firmness and texture that go beyond what the pigment results alone would suggest.
Full-Face Rejuvenation
Because IPL can be applied broadly across the face, neck, chest, and hands, a series of treatments can refresh the overall appearance of your skin—evening out tone, reducing vascularity, and improving clarity.

IPL Photofacial FAQs

Here are the most common questions we receive about IPL photofacials at BodyLase.

Most clients see optimal results after a series of three to six sessions spaced three to four weeks apart. Maintenance treatments once or twice a year help sustain results.

An IPL photofacial is generally well tolerated without numbing. Most clients describe each pulse as a brief warm sensation on the skin.

Mild redness and warmth, similar to a mild sunburn, may occur immediately after treatment and typically resolve within a few hours. In the days that follow, treated pigment may temporarily darken before gradually flaking off. As your skin heals, pigment and vascular concerns continue to improve. Daily SPF and gentle skincare are important during this time.

IPL is not safe on recently tanned skin, as it raises the risk of burns or unintended pigmentation changes. We recommend avoiding sun exposure, tanning beds, and self-tanning products for at least 2 weeks before your treatment.

They’re both light-based treatments, but they serve different purposes. IPL for photofacials targets melanin in pigmented spots and hemoglobin in visible blood vessels. Laser hair removal uses targeted wavelengths to destroy hair follicles. While some IPL devices can reduce hair, dedicated laser hair removal delivers more precise and consistent results for that specific goal.

IPL is most effective for sun damage, brown spots, redness, and visible vascular concerns like broken capillaries and rosacea. It works by delivering targeted light energy that breaks down pigment and hemoglobin, allowing the body to gradually clear the discoloration. A series of 3 to 5 treatments is typically recommended for optimal results.
